HOW TO CLEAN SMOKE AND LINSEED OIL FROM A PAINTING

MARIAN LOIS WRIGHT
PAINTER
1883

Cleaning the surface of the painting is important, you can first remove smoke and grime with milder cleaners.  Once you have the varnish to clean most of the time you have to clean it twice giving days in between for the paint to harden.  Linseed oil is a medium artists used in the 1800's.  Used within painting pigments or in addition to bring doll dark colors to life.  They used this medium to see what the old colors were before adding more layers to it.  Now, most oil painting colors have linseed oil in them.  It is a more refine way to see your works pure and as if they were wet days and weeks later.
