Priming with Gesso
Anabela Ferguson
This oil painting on a wood surface was finished
recently. I wanted to show this piece to you to tell you that some
oils can be painted in different surfaces. For oil paint
to bond to the surface you must add an acrylic or water based
medium. Oil paints carry linseed oils and they need a strong
medium to bond. Once the paint has been added and time has been allowed for drying,
give it a firm and thick coat of a reversible damar gloss finish.
The beauty of priming this piece with gesso is to give those areas like the sky and the water a true texture of nature.
